Located on the left bank of the Red River, about 15km from Hanoi’s center, Bat Trang is Vietnam’s oldest and most iconic ceramic village, dating back to the 14th century. The name “Bat Trang” translates to “a large yard for ceramics,” symbolizing its long-standing history as a hub for artistic excellence and traditional craftsmanship.

09:00 AM | MEETING THE MASTER ARTISAN Arrive at the workshop and meet Master Artisan Nguyen Quang Huy. Hear his personal stories about growing up in the village and the evolution of Bat Trang pottery.

09:30 AM | HISTORICAL & CULTURAL EXPLORATION Begin a walking tour through the narrow, ancient alleys to discover the village’s hidden gems:

  • Nha Vuong (Square House): Visit the historic home of Mr. Dang Thanh (locally known as Mr. Loi).
  • Chu Nom Calligraphy: Experience the traditional Vietnamese art of “Xin Chu” (seeking auspicious characters) and learn about the ancient Nom script.
